Even in today's tough economic times there are many ways people can receive food assistance and where they can go for help. Things are bad economically right now and more and more people find themselves in a position where they cannot afford to feed themselves and their families sufficiently. Good nutrition is the backbone to health, and in a country like ours, even in bad times there is no need for anyone to go hungry. There are a lot of agencies out there that are willing to help keep everyone fed as best as possible.
One of the ways people can receive food aid and where they can go for help is their church. Most churches have a food program to help out not just their congregation but the community at large. A common misconception is that you need to be a member of the congregation to receive help or aid, but that's not the case. The church food programs are there for everyone. There are typically two types of food programs that are church sponsored. There are community dining programs where you actually go and eat prepared meals in a communal dining hall and there are food pantries where the church gives out food to take home and prepare yourself.
Another of the many ways people can receive food assistance and where they can go for help is by frequenting food banks which are run by all types of organizations. Again, like in the church scenario, food banks can be a combination community dining situation and food pantry where you can eat in a dining room or bring your donated groceries home, or both. Food banks distribute food by either the beneficiary coming into the food bank location or by volunteers who deliver food to people's homes. Food banks are for anyone who cannot afford a sufficient amount of food. This could be the homeless, poor, working poor, or infirmed.
Additionally, other ways people can receive food aid and where they can find help are restaurants that give away their extra food. Sometimes restaurants over order supplies and end up with perishable or non perishable foods they do not need and will distribute them to people who need it. Restaurants sometimes make it part of their routine to give away food even if it isn't extra. There is no reason for anyone to go hungry in the United States today.
